What We Believe

OUR WELCOMING STATEMENT

We, the congregation of the Love In Action United Church of Christ, as an Open and  Affirming church, welcome and accept into  full life and ministry persons of every race, age, economic situation, ability, sexual  orientation, gender identity, and gender  expression—all our friends who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, and  transgender. All are welcome to participate in the sacraments of baptism and communion and become members, leaders, and employees of the church.

We promise to celebrate marriages and  commitment ceremonies because we believe all loves are equal before God. We are an open community of faith and healing.  We wish to show God’s love to all people in every way possible as we walk with Christ. You are welcome!

WE ARE SPIRITUALLY OPEN.

Our faith is 2000 years old.

Our thinking is not.

No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, YOU are welcome here!

We are a Christian community of faith that welcomes doubters, questioners, atheists, agnostics, and people of all faith backgrounds. We do not have all the answers and are constantly learning. We value the New Testament of the Bible as a sacred text for Christians, and the Old Testament as a sacred text of Jews and Christians. We also value and affirm Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Baha'is, Jains, Buddhists, Jews, Secular Humanists, and all other traditions and people who love others with their words and actions. We join with others of different religious backgrounds because we believe it helps us more honestly identify with our own faith tradition and it enables us to make a positive impact in the world--building bridges of understanding and cooperation.

WE BELIEVE THAT FAITH MUST BE SHOWN IN OUR ACTIONS.

Our communities need compassionate acts more than they need just words. We are committed to address the needs of the communities around us and beyond, to make wise and kind choices as to how we can make a positive impact. Social justice, we believe, is only carried out if we participate. Therefore, we stand with those who are bullied or marginalized and stand up against injustice against anyone, anywhere.

WE BELIEVE IN THE STRENGTH, ENCOURAGEMENT, AND HEALING OF COMMUNITY.

We are made up of people of various backgrounds; our community does not seek to be homogenous. We won't try to convert you to our viewpoints, and we embrace new ideas and perspectives. In community, we realize that we are not alone and that we can find acceptance and love. In community, we are more able to address the pressing needs of the people around us and within our families, schools, and communities.
